If your Media Vault is making a loud tone, it could because the hard drive has failed or is no longer responding to the OS. This usually happens if the mobile rack drive fails. Check the user interface and see if there are any clues in the log (assuming it will respond).

I run help website on this product at

http://k0lee.com/hpmediavault

It may provide some more help about how to fix it.

I purchased a Media Vault mv2010 two years ago and it has worked problem free until today. It will boot up and momentarily illuminate the green OK light. However, this light immediately goes out and the orange caution light comes on while a loud tone sounds continuously.

Can anyone tell me what is causing this?

Thank you,

Stephen A...

Wow, I am going to look into this Sam.

I currently have an old box setup to hold data and I have that streaming to my xbox.

Traditionally I have hated (HATED) HP, but lately they seem to have been making some good moves.

Worth a look,
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks for the comment Lee. I guess I didn't realize that there was a CD that came along with it too so that is something I'm also missing. It doesn't really matter though, as long as your FAQ site stays online :)

Hi Sam,

Thanks for putting together this review. I use a Google Alert set for "HP Media Vault" so I can see what people are writing about the product, and to help anyone who might have questions about it. I'm glad you've already found the FAQ website. There's also a Media Vault Yahoo Group set up for discussions which is linked to the FAQ with over 2100 members.

The HTML-based instruction manual is on the installation CD. It's also linked to the FAQ, in case you lose the CD.

I hope you enjoy the product and please let me know if you have any questions about it.
