Amie St. is a new online music distribution service for non-mainstream artists to distribute their music. It is a really neat service that is quite similar to thesixtyone in that it uses a voting system to push good tracks to front pages so that the better tracks get exposure (digg anyone?).
However, what sets Amie St. apart from thesixtyone is that you can purchase the music off the site, DRM free. The neat part about it too is that if the track(s) you are buying haven’t gotten a lot of exposure, the price is going to be quite cheap. Track prices range from $0 to $0.98 (once a track becomes really popular, it’s price is capped off at $0.98). This dynamic pricing scheme is a great idea and will certainly bring me back looking for the hidden gems.
Something both Amie St. and thesixtyone both share is the voting system. Both systems are quite similar in that if you vote (or as they say, recommend) first on a track and it becomes popular in that it reaches the $0.98 price cap, you gain $0.98 in credit and 98 street cred which affects your voting power.
If you’re into the indie scene or want to look for new music, Amie St. is a great site. It’s also not limited to just the US, unlike some other online music services. If you do sign up, I found a coupon code that you can redeem during the registration process that is good for $5 in credit. Enter hotbitcharsenal at sign up.
