Five Ways You Can Make Your Life A Little More Green

Today is Blog Action Day, and I will be listing a few of my lifestyle choices I actively make in order to minimize my negative impacts on the environment. A lot of these choices occur daily, so even if they contribute little to the environment, remember that it all adds up over time.
- Recycle Paper - I started recycling paper after I realized all the paper I was wasting at the end of a school year. I got started by setting up a little bin by my desk and all unneeded paper items go there instead of the trash can.
- Recycle Pop Cans/Bottles - This is a habit for me since I was young because not only was I instilled on recycling these items actively at school, but you can get some extra cash when you bring these in for recycling.
- Electronic Billing - Eliminate wasted paper by switching to electronic billing. I for one found this a more secure option because the mailman often delivered my bank account statements (sometimes freelance cheques too…) two or so houses down. As long as you keep your password safe and you don’t log in at unsecure hotspots, you should be fine. As a bonus you can view your massive credit card bill a few days ahead of time so you can start saving up earlier.
- Use Natural Daylight - If it’s daytime and you’re too lazy to open the curtains and reach for the closer lightswitch, you might want to think otherwise. Not only are you wasting electricity, but you can save on your electric bill too by using natural daylight when possible.
- Use Rechargeable Batteries - Rechargeable batteries are a great investment. With current technology, they can also outlast battery life of disposable batteries. Look for NiMH rechargeable batteries the next time you do some grocery shopping, higher mA means the battery will last longer.
What sort of green lifestyle choices do you make on a daily basis?
