Plans to move to a new host
For the month of February, I’ve been planning to switch web hosts, especially since my friends got me money to pay for a new hosting plan as a birthday present. However, with midterms and time-sensitive work getting in the way, it is now March and not much progress has been made on this.
I would really like to switch hosts once I get have the time to do it, because Godaddy is really slow with any content management system that requires a mySQL database. I’m not the only one to testify about this, google up this issue and you will find tons of forum and blog posts of other Godaddy customers complaining about slow hosting with their blogs on Godaddy’s shared hosting service. I don’t blame Godaddy for this though. Their hosting is inexpensive and because so many others would like to pay a cheap monthly rate for all the features you get with their shared hosting service, many people share the same database and this can slow your site down tremendously when other sites on your shared server are seeing peak visiting times. If you visit my blog during the afternoons (if you’re in North America), or Our Take (another blog I help run) which run on Godaddy’s shared hosting, you’ve probably had issues loading them up before. I sure have and it’s been really frustrating.
Right now I’m considering switching over to mediatemple’s Grid-Server plan. Although the price tag is a hefty $20/month, I think I’m passionate enough with blogging and web design to justify the cost. I’ve only heard good things about mediatemple and I hope everything works a lot better once I move hosts. Does anybody have any other recommendations, or would like to encourage me to switch faster with a nice testimonial about mediatemple’s service?
EDIT: As of Wednesday March 21 2007 @ 10:02pm, goSammy is now running on mediatemple’s grid-server ![]()
Enjoy the faster load times!
